This pill, declared as MDMA, contains a high amount of 4-CMC (4-chloromethcathinone), an unexplored new psychoactive substance. 4-CMC belongs to the cathinone group and is structurally related to mephedrone (4-MMC). 4-CMC is described as having strong performance-enhancing and euphoric effects. Some users report severe headaches, as well as kidney and liver pain on the days after use. It is also reported that the substance can trigger a strong urge to re-dose, which increases the potential for addiction. No information is available on the risks, side effects and long-term consequences of 4-CMC. However, it is suspected that 4-CMC may be very neurotoxic. There are studies of chemically related compounds (4-chloramphetamine) which suggest that 4-CMC could lead to a pronounced and sustained depletion of serotonin stores. Furthermore, an unknown substance was analyzed in the pill, which is most likely a synthesis by-product or reactant.
Completely unknown is the interaction potential between 4-CMC and other substances.
