Psilocin and 4-AcO-DMT sold as DMT

This liquid sold as DMT did not contain the expected DMT, but 4-AcO-DMT and psilocin.
Psilocin (4-hydroxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine) is a naturally occurring psychedelic tryptamine and the main directly active component of psychoactive mushrooms. It is produced in the body through the conversion of psilocybin and acts on the 5-HT2A receptor. The effects are highly visual, emotional and promote deep self-reflection.
4-AcO-DMT (4-acetoxy-DMT, 4-acetoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine, psilacetin and "synthetic mushrooms") is a new, lesser-known psychedelic substance from the tryptamine class. It is structurally related to psilocybin and psilocin. Its effects are described as identical to psilocybin and psilocin. It has been theorized to act as a prodrug similar to psilocybin, which may explain this similarity. More information on 4-AcO-DMT can be found on an external website.
Withthis misrepresentation, users assume that they have received DMT in liquid form. If the liquid is then inhaled with a vape device - on the assumption that it is DMT - the effect will most likely be absent. The reason: psilocin and 4-AcO-DMT are not heat-stable and lose their effect when heated. DMT itself only works orally if an MAO inhibitor is taken at the same time - which is not normally the case with such liquids.
If the substance is swallowed instead, psilocin or 4-AcO-DMT may very well work. The effects begin after about 20 to 60 minutes and can last 4 to 6 hours or longer. However, those expecting a short, intense DMT experience may be psychologically overwhelmed by the longer and deeper effects - especially if the person is not prepared for the experience and the set and setting may not be optimal.
